Sanjo ya Busiya

Sanjo ya Busiya is the annual cultural gathering of the Busiya Chiefdom — a traditional event that brings together elders, leaders, youth, and visitors to celebrate history, honor past chiefs, and strengthen community bonds.The ceremony, which takes place every end of June with a climax on the 7th of July, showcases the values, identity, and continuity of the Busiya people.

Sanjo ya Busiya comprises of the following activities

Sanjo ya Busiya features a rich lineup of cultural and community activities that bring people together and celebrate the identity of the Chiefdom:

1. Traditional Dances

Energetic and symbolic dances performed by men, women, and youth groups — showcasing rhythm, history, and unity.

3. Stick Fights

A traditional and highly respected sport that demonstrates bravery, skill, and discipline among the youth.

2. Bicycle Race

A competitive and exciting bicycle marathon involving participants from different wards of Busiya, promoting fitness and community spirit.

4. Cultural Foods Exhibition

Women’s groups and families prepare traditional meals, sharing the culinary heritage of Busiya with visitors and guests.
